2009 Annual Spring Conference

New Jersey NENA held its 14th Annual Spring Conference April 23rd and 24th at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Despite concerns over the trouble fiscal state of many organizations this event was well attended and had strong support from public safety vendors.

The conference opened with a keynote address by the NENA National’s CEO Brian Fontes. Mr. Fontes provided the attendees with an update on national projects and activities. Throughout the two day conference attendees were able to attend informative sessions that filled three tracks - technical, management and operations, or telecommunicator and 9-1-1 instructors. A total of 10 hours of continuing telecommunicator education credits were earned by those in attendance.

In addition to the instructional sessions, close to 40 vendors filled the exhibit hall. Here attendees could see the latest in public safety communications equipment and services.

Several networking opportunities were provided during the morning breakfast buffets, coffee breaks and delicious luncheons. 9-1-1 professionals had a chance to compare notes with their counterparts from throughout the state.

Another highlight of the event was the 9-1-1 Hero Award Ceremony. Telecommunicators and citizens who went above and beyond in the course of a 9-1-1 event were honored by their peers.

Finally, many thanks must go to the NJ NENA Executive Board, the volunteers, the exhibitors and the presenters who all worked tirelessly to bring this opportunity to New Jersey’s 9-1-1 professionals. They are all to be congratulated on a great job! If you missed this year’s conference, mark your calendar now, next year’s conference is already scheduled for April 20 & 21, 2010 at the Taj Mahal. Continue to watch the NJ NENA website for details.

CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

Every year our conference grows as we continue to provide what the membership desires, and that's to learn more about the ever-changing methods and technology employed in 9-1-1 today. Our exhibitors return year after year as they see the value in what our conference provides its members. Some of them have been with us from the beginning. But the real credit goes to the conference committee and the volunteers. This year the Executive Board was joined by volunteers  Danny Medina, Patty Burd, Sherry Minuto and Patty Walsh. Missing from the picture is Audrey Kenny, Past President Forrest Eichmann and Past Commercial Vice President Bob Gojanovich.

Countless hours go into planning the conference and without the help and dedication of the volunteers this years success would not have been possible. Next years conference planning had already begun before the 2009 conference had ended. Anyone who would like to participate is invited to contact any Executive Board member for more information. CHARTER MEMBERS

When the New Jersey Chapter of NENA was formed in 1994 a small group of members met for the first time at the Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) headquarters in Trenton to begin building the chapter to what it is today. Some have moved on and some have retired. But 15 years later 3 of the original group remain. Those three, Bonnie Hueg, Bob Gojanovich and Bob Anderson, pictured with President Ray Kenny, were presented plaques by Past President Forrest Eichmann in recognition of their continuing efforts to build the chapter. The recipients were surprised and honored that Forrest came out of retirement to not only make the presentation, but to also help as a volunteer.
